evaluation of magazine

i have been set a task to find a magazine cover on the internet and then to annotate it, i have chosen a magazine from tog gear that is advertising cars, i then listead all of the different layers in this magazine and i then tried to re-make this magazine cover.

-the convention that this magazine covers is about cars, supercars and it is based on the tv series called tog gear, this is all about cars.

-the magazine cover breaks are that the bar code is on the top lrft of the cover and it is supposed to be on the bottom right of the cover in the corner, then there is no strap line at the bottom of the cover.

-the colour palette that has been used within this cover is best suited for men as there is a lot of dull / dark coloured cars and the clouds in the background are grey, therefore making the surrounding on the ground dark and dull, also there is a pale red title with a purple strapline, all of these colours are very masculin and are best suited for men / teenage boys.

-this cover provokes the audience to want to buy a sports car e.g. the Audi R8, this is because the cover is advertising sports cars and it will tell the audience all about the cars also there will be pictures of all the different angles of the cars inside the mag to persuade them even more.

-this magazine appeals to both new and regula readers because the magazine cover looks interesting with all of the different sports cars and the readers whether they are ne or regula will be interested with the pictures, this is because they can fantasize about having one.

-the magazine is published by the BBC and the topgear team, this is known because there is a logo at the top of the cover, the circulation of this magazine would be weekly because there is a date on the cover next to the barcode.

-i have learnt about all of the conventions that a magazine has to follow, i have also learnt that if any of the conventions have been broke then you will have to produce supporting studies to justify their actions, then i have learnt that there are colour palets that attracts the audience to the mag and finaly all of the pictures whether they can inspire new or regular readers.

Evavluation of film

I have been making a film for media studies and it is a re-enactment of the TV soap 'Eastenders'. in this part of the lesson we had to get a cam-corder and then film a part of 'Eastenders' we then went into the Mac rooms and then we had to add effects and fit all of the recording together.

-this scene is a typical example of a TV soap because there are a lot of different characters that are living in the same area and then there is a problejm that they all have, there are a lot of different acters in the TV series.

-the camera angles that have been in this TV soap are: mid shot, slose up, pan shot, master shot, two shot, zoom out, establishing shot.

-the recreation that we made was not very acurate because there was not enough people in some 0f the scenes and there were no props in the scene like the curtains.

-the sucesses that we had were that we could make the TV soap and we recreated the beggining scene from the popular soap Eastenders, we also encountered problems e.g. we didnt have enough people to do some of the clips, we didnt have enough time to get it like the tv soap (origional).

- i have learnt the word mise en scene and i have also learnt about what means. the word mise en scene means all of the things that are in the picture clip of a film, video, tv soap and so on... e.g. in the tv soap emerdale that we had to re-create there was a telephone, door, wall, clothes that the people were wearing (costumes), kitchen units, all of these are part of the mise en scene.

-i have learnt that the continuity in a video is important because if the clip changes to the next one and there is a jump that is obvious then the movie doesnt look as good as a movie that is smoothe throught out all of the clips

-i think that i will need to work on my techniques because i am not sure on all of the different names of camera shots, also i am not sure on what some of them are like the establishing shot.

i feel more confident with using a camera to record a moving image because i know how to do most of the basic stuff in editing the futtage and i am less confident with creating a print based product because i dont know much about the software that is needed
